Kia Tasman towing capacity, GVM and payload

Kia's first ute tows 3,500kg and carries well, with payload running from just over a tonne to nearly 1.4 tonnes. It publishes both axle ratings, which not every rival does.

What eats your payload on a Tasman

A tray on the cab chassis

The single cab and dual cab chassis variants are quoted pre-tray, so the strong payload figure in the table is for a vehicle with nothing on the back. An alloy tray typically costs 150kg of it.

Canopy, drawers and a fridge

Kia publishes a rear axle rating, so a rear-heavy tourer can be checked against a real published limit rather than a modelled one.

Roof load

The published roof rating is 100kg, which is typical for the class and lower than most rooftop tent setups assume once the platform is counted.

Tasman specifics worth knowing

Cab chassis kerb weights are pre-tray, and the table does not always say so

Kia flags this for the single cab chassis section but not consistently elsewhere. Before you plan a build on a dual cab chassis figure, check the compliance plate on the actual vehicle, because a tray may or may not be in the number you are reading.

Payload is genuinely strong, which invites overloading

The Tasman carries more than most of its rivals, and that is a real advantage. It also means people fit more to it, and the rear axle rating arrives before the GVM does on a heavily loaded tourer.

Body style matters more than grade

The spread between the lightest single cab chassis and the heaviest dual cab pick-up is over 350kg of payload. Choose the body first and the trim second if capacity is what you are buying for.

Kia Tasman questions

What is the payload of a Kia Tasman?

From just over a tonne to nearly 1.4 tonnes depending on body style and grade, which is strong for the class. Select your variant above for its exact figure.

What is the towing capacity of the Kia Tasman?

3,500kg braked, with a 6,200kg GCM. As always, the GCM means you cannot tow the maximum and load the ute to its GVM at the same time.

Does the Tasman publish axle ratings?

Yes, both front and rear, so the calculator can check your build against published limits instead of modelling them.

What is the Tasman's roof load rating?

100kg as published by Kia. That includes the rack or platform itself, which is often a third of the allowance before anything is mounted to it.

Is the cab chassis payload figure with or without a tray?

Kia's tables are inconsistent on this point. Treat cab chassis kerb weights as pre-tray unless the compliance plate on the vehicle in front of you says otherwise.
